Scanning the Titan Drink
I have tried a lot of different 3D scanning programs on my iPhone from 3d Scanner App to ScandyPro, and I was never able to find a scanning application that could scan an object that wasn’t solid. I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and I was watching a video from karenxcheng on a new program call Luma. It uses a back-end call NeRF which is a program that I have read a lot about, but I have never been able to use due to the video card restrictions and Apple computers.
I started scanning hoping for the best, but I was still expecting the same result. A model with missing pieces and something that just won’t work. You can see with the image on the right that everything is jagged and really doesn’t look that great. Now to Luma which is the second image. To say I was impressed is an understatement. This new app is incredible. I was able to scan the drink, and I actually had a model that I could use for the very first time for my project.
Editing with Blender
The next step was the easiest of all. I needed a stable surface to hold the cup while I was scanning, so I placed one of our red Melissa & Doug building blocks underneath. It worked amazing, and it was super easy to go in with Blender and remove. After that was removed, I simply saved my file and moved on to the next step.
Building with Blippar
My last step was to take my scanned drink cup and place it in another new program that I have been using Blippar. Blippar is a webAR platform. The cool thing about webAR is that it allows you to produce Augmented Reality programs that will work on both Apple and Android products. There have been a lot of really awesome creations completed with Blippar, and I have been having so much fun learning the ins and outs of the program.
